Clermont-Ferrand markets: days and opening times
Published 5 November 2026
In Clermont-Ferrand there is a market almost every day. The Halle gourmande Saint-Pierre, right in the centre, is open Monday to Saturday from 7 am to 7 pm; the large open-air markets take place in the morning, from 7 am to 1 pm, on Tuesdays at La Gauthière, Wednesdays at Loucheur, Saturdays at Le Mazet and two Sundays a month on place de Jaude. Here is the full calendar, district by district.
The covered markets
The Halle gourmande Saint-Pierre
The Saint-Pierre market is now called the Halle gourmande Saint-Pierre. It is open Monday to Saturday, from 7 am to 7 pm. You will find a butcher, fishmonger, greengrocers, cheese shop, Auvergne produce, an oyster bar and a place to eat. It is the most convenient address if you are staying in the city centre: the tram stops at Gaillard. Information on 04 73 31 27 88.
The Halle Saint-Joseph
On rue de Courpière, the Halle Saint-Joseph hosts a market on Friday mornings. The city gives opening times of 7 am to 1 pm.
The large open-air markets
- Tuesday: La Gauthière market, place de la Gauthière, 7 am to 1 pm.
- Wednesday: Loucheur market, rue Chevreul and rue Alexis-Piron, 7 am to 1 pm.
- Saturday: Le Mazet market, place du Mazet, 7 am to 1 pm.
- 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month: Jaude market, place de Jaude, 7 am to 1 pm. On the first Sunday, "Place aux arts" also brings artists together, from 8.30 am to 1 pm. It is the most central of the large markets, on the city's main square.
Montferrand and the neighbourhood markets
In the historic Montferrand district, a market is held on Friday mornings, from place Poly to place de la Rodade. On the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month, a local producers' market sets up on place de la Fontaine and rue Jules-Guesde, from 7 am to 1 pm.
Other markets liven up the districts, usually from 7 am to 1 pm:
- Croix-de-Neyrat, Thursday morning;
- Gravouses, 6-10 rue des Tardières, Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm;
- Trémonteix, 62 rue Victor-Charreton, Thursday from 5 pm to 8 pm;
- La Pradelle, place Lapadu-Hargues, Friday from 4 pm to 7 pm, with crafts and local produce;
- Ballainvilliers, Wednesday from 2 pm to 8 pm;
- place de Verdun, Friday from 2 pm to 8 pm;
- La Glacière, rue Chateaubriand, Tuesday and Saturday.
The full list, including the small neighbourhood markets, is published on the city's list of markets page (in French). Bargain hunters should head to the Les Salins flea market, place des Salins, on Sunday mornings.
What to bring back from the market
Auvergne has five PDO cheeses: Cantal, Saint-Nectaire, Fourme d'Ambert, Bleu d'Auvergne and Salers. You will find them at the cheese stalls in the covered markets and from producers. To find out more, visit the Auvergne PDO cheeses website, and read our article on local specialities.
If you are looking for organic produce, there is no dedicated organic market in Clermont itself; the tourist office lists an organic producers' market in Orcet, on Fridays from 4 pm to 7 pm.
Our practical tips
- Go early. Most open-air markets close around 1 pm.
- Take the tram at weekends: the T2C network is free on Saturdays and Sundays. This has been kept on the new network, in service since December 2025.
- Check public holidays: some markets may move; the city and the tourist office publish changes.
- Bring a cool bag if you are buying cheese or charcuterie for the journey.
